The Sky's the limit for disabled jobseekers

Remploy Press Release

The sky's the limit for disabled jobseekers in south Wales and the west of England following a link up between leading employment specialist Remploy and recruitment firm, SkyBlue.

Over the past two years the organisations have worked together to help 80 disabled workers make the switch from claiming benefits into rewarding employment in the rail industry.

Research has shown that getting a job can change lives of disabled people for the better - aiding rehabilitation, building confidence and increasing independence.

Remploy helps people with disabilities and health conditions find sustainable employment- so they can fulfil their potential and enjoy the rewards working can bring. Understanding that people have different needs, Remploy helps hundreds of people in Wales into paid employment every year.

Jon Jewell, account manager for Remploy, said: "We work with a large number of job-ready people that have the necessary skills and abilities to enter the workplace.

“The relationship we have developed with SkyBlue highlights the benefits of working with local organisations - it's fantastic that between us we have been able to source employment for such a large number of jobseekers.”

As part of the package, candidates have a rail industry training programme. Employees are then placed in jobs throughout Wales and the west of England and all have gained their Personal Track Safety (PTS) qualifications.

Phil Murphy, Wales & the West Area Manager for SkyBlue added: "We have worked with people aged from 18 to 60 years old. It goes to show that with dedicated support mechanisms disabled people can get good jobs.

"As an organisation we are extremely proud of the relationship we have developed with Remploy. The people we have recruited have all been of an extremely high calibre and their willingness to learn has been second to none."

Carole Elford was at the forefront of establishing the relationship between Remploy and SkyBlue, she added: "Remploy's number one priority is to support people with disabilities and health conditions into employment and this relationship demonstrates just this - long may it continue."

Remploy has already supported people into work with leading employers like Tesco, City Facilities and the NHS. People with a disability or health condition who need employment advice can call Remploy Interwork on 0845 6015878 or visit www.realjobs4realpeople.com

Notes to editors:

Remploy is the UK's leading provider of jobs for disabled people. Last year it supported in work or into work more than 10,000 people with a range of physical, sensory and mental disabilities.

The company partners with some of the country's biggest companies to find jobs for disabled people, including BT, Asda, Christian Salvesen, Tesco and B&Q.

The company employs 5,700 disabled people in its own manufacturing and services businesses and last year its specialist recruitment agency, Remploy Interwork, found jobs in mainstream employment for a further 4,300.

Remploy is the country's leading supplier of school furniture, makes chemical, biological and nuclear protection suits for police and military in Britain and overseas, and operates CCTV in more than 50 towns and cities.

Remploy is a non-departmental public body and receives an annual government grant of £111m.

In line with recent government proposals to encourage one million people off incapacity benefit over the next decade, and as more and more people look to make the swap from health-related benefits into paid employment, Remploy aims to support 20,000 people nationally into employment each year by 2010.
