The Consultants Speak - Lifestyle Feature on Consultants

Six brave consultants were put to the test. They answered five unnerving questions about their attitude to the job and the results are compared below. This experiment thanks (in no particular order - anonymity was ensured) Reed, Blue Arrow, Manpower, Search and Select.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
Consultant A:Variety.
Consultant B:Variety.
Consultant C:The diversity of the people. And that every day is a bit different.
Consultant D:It's such a varied job, no day is the same.
Consultant E:Building relationships with clients, helping candidates out.
Consultant F:When you get happy candidates and clients following a placement.
Q: What is the worst thing about your job?
Consultant A: People not doing what they say they are going to do.
Consultant B: Things falling through in the last minute.
Consultant C: Having to deal with people who haven't really got a clue about what they want.
Consultant D: The long hours.
Consultant E: Obviously, when jobs don't work out. But it's part of the job, so it's how you deal with it.
Consultant F: There's nothing more frustrating than a perfect candidate turning down a perfect job because they've accepted more money elsewhere.
Q: Describe your job in three words.
Consultant A: Lots of variety.
Consultant B: Different, fast, stressful.
Consultant C: Interesting, fun, challenging.
Consultant D: Varied, exciting, challenging.
Consultant E: Challenging, fast-paced, tense.
Consultant F: Busy, noisy, fun.
Q: What do you like most about the recruitment industry as a whole?
Consultant A: Meeting lots of people.
Consultant B: That rewards are in direct relation to the amount of effort you put in.
Consultant C: I don't know it terribly well yet, so I'll have to pass.
Consultant D: The potential to earn a lot of money.
Consultant E: Just providing a service to clients.
Consultant F: It's fast paced and allows me to utilise my people skills.
Q: What do you do to relax when you get home?
Consultant A: Entertain and theatre.
Consultant B: Drink wine.
Consultant C: Go to the gym.
Consultant D:Watch TV.
Consultant E: Just crash out in front of the telly with a beer.
Consultant F: I enjoy skateboarding and DJing.

Now that they've had their say, we can see that they're just normal people - not some money-crazed madmen who want to take over the world.
