EXCLUSIVE REC/IoD COURSE FOR RECRUITMENT LEADERSThe Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) is joining forces again with the Institute of Directors (IoD) in offering an exclusive course for strategic recruitment leaders.
The programme, which starts in October, is the continuation of the new collaboration between the REC and IoD in providing courses – the Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction - designed to enable senior recruitment industry professionals to gain skills and accreditation alongside qualifications within their own respective field.
A total of 12 directors from small and medium sized agencies, representing the IT, care, telecoms, security and accountancy sectors of recruitment, embarked on the first course in April this year.
Benefiting from the RECs thorough knowledge of the recruitment industry aligned with the IoDs many years experience of director development, the course programme is designed to cover the key areas in which leaders need to excel as well as explore fundamental differences between management and direction.
The Certificate comprises four courses covering the role of the company director and board; the director and the law; strategic business direction and finance.
Once participants have completed the Certificate in Company Direction, they can continue studying for the Diploma and then finally for the professional qualification of Chartered Director.

Judith Armatage, the RECs Director of Professional Development explained the course was a particularly useful tool for board level members to gain a greater understanding of the responsibilities and duties of their members.
Judith, who is one of the current course delegates, said: This is a real opportunity for directors to become aware of both the current climate within the recruitment industry and the need to continue raising the professional standards within it.
The REC is committed to ensuring those standards are constantly monitored and met, and the course covers the disciplines and strategies which will be needed to reach these prescribed targets.
Our ethos within the REC is that personal development is our own individual responsibility and no matter how senior a member of staff may be within an organisation, learning remains a positive tool towards achieving goals, Judith added.
Karen Bayless, Head of the IoD Board Development Service, said: We are delighted to be working with the REC and look forward to welcoming many more of their members on the next joint Certificate programme.
