REC News Updates
REC APPOINTS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERThe Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) is delighted to announce that it has appointed Marcia Roberts as Chief Executive, the third since its inception.
After conducting an internal review of both the role and the experience required, the Board unanimously agreed that Marcia, who is the current Deputy Chief Executive was the ideal person for this prestigious and challenging role.
Marcia will be the first CEO of REC who has experience of being both a recruiter and a purchaser of recruitment services. In addition, Marcia has 10 years' experience at a senior level of managing membership organisations. Marcia is a well known and respected industry figure and will be welcomed by members and key stakeholders who already hold her in high regard.
Richard Barfield, Chairman of REC, said:
After due process, the Board knew that it need look no further to find the person who can take REC to the next level of its development. Marcia has been with REC for over five years, firstly as Director of External Relations, where she revolutionised the industry's reputation with Government. For the last three years Marcia has been the Deputy CEO where she has done an outstanding job.
It is an exciting time for the REC. There is the need to continue to grow the REC, the need to raise industry standards, a need to defend the ever present threat of more regulation and the need for the trade association to have a strong ambassador at its helm - Marcia is perfectly equipped to deliver these objectives and the board looks forward to working with her as CEO.'
Marcia Roberts said:
I am both delighted and honoured to accept this role. The REC has strong foundations upon which to build but there is so much more to do. We need to build the REC as a strong brand with our clients and job seekers. We must do more to deliver timely and valued services and we must continue to maintain a high industry profile.
In particular, we must engage members in the standards debate and set an appropriate threshold for corporate membership. The recruitment industry has grown from strength to strength and it is REC's role to create the best possible environment in which our members can do business.
I am lucky to have a representative board and a first class management team to help me in the task ahead. Furthermore, the REC can call upon thousands of active REC members to support us in our goals. It is always enjoyable to work within a passionate and committed sector and I can think of no other industry sector that I would rather work for or believe in more strongly. We have big ambitions and it is my job to make those a reality.'
