REC News Updates
REC APPOINTS NEW CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARDThe Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the trade association for the UK's recruitment industry, is delighted to announce the appointment of Gary Irvine as the new Chairman of its Board.
Gary, who has had a long association with the REC and its forerunner FRES, succeeds Richard Barfield as Chairman and will be leading a 19 strong board, which was significantly extended this year to encompass all sectors within the UK's £24.5 billion industry.
His appointment comes a fortnight after Marcia Roberts became the REC's new Chief Executive Officer.
In 1991, Gary and Diamond joined FRES of which he became chairman of the Northern Ireland region five years later. When the REC was established in 2000, he remained as its Northern Ireland regional chairman. He has also been vice-chair of the REC's regional directors and joined the main board of the REC last year.
Gary said: "I am very much looking forward to being chairman of the board at a very exciting time for the REC. Our new-look board comprising 19 members represents every sector of our dynamic and fast-moving industry throughout the UK and I welcome the challenge of managing them in order to achieve the very best for the REC.
"I very much concur with the objectives already outlined by Marcia Roberts in building awareness of the REC as a strong brand and in delivering the best possible services to our 13,000 strong membership. Within this, I believe one key area in achieving this is to continue to grow our Professional Development services in both the training and qualifications we offer to members and non-members alike."
Gary paid tribute to Richard Barfield and the foundations he has laid down with the new board. "He has been a superb Chairman and his talent and expertise has been a great asset to the REC in his time on the board. From him, I am inheriting a very strong and diverse board."
Marcia Roberts said of Gary's appointment: Gary has been involved with the REC in an official capacity for many years and becoming Chair is a natural progression. In his new role as Chair, Gary will be a respected leader within the recruitment industry and will help the REC achieve continued growth and recognition.
