Britney Spears denied access to sons in latest court hearing! Britney Spears arrived late for the custody hearing, but left without entering the court room. A bad start to 2008 gets worse for the troubled star.

Former teen queen of the pop charts, Britney Spears is lurching from disaster to catastrophe in 2008. No sooner do we read that she has been put on suicide watch than reports emerge that she bizarelly turned up late for the latest custody hearing (she was late)but then drove away without getting out of her vehicle. Now we can reasonable assume that Miss Spears loves and cares for her sons and is fighting to see and win custody of them. Or can we?

The nature of Miss Spears eccentric behaviour since her first incredibly short non-marriage/wedding (to Jason Alexander in late 2004) and subsequent wedding then short-lived but fertile union with K-Fed nine months later -in July 2005- is serious cause for concern. The first wedding can be excused as a drunken and ill-conceived jape whilst getting hitched to Mr Federline seems to have been a genuine stab at being normal and chasing romance and love. Sadly normal doesn't seem to work for Britney Spears. Since 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' became a global phenomenon in 1998 and elevated Miss Spears to ultra pop star. Normal hasn't been on the menu. Rather than hanging around with a motley crew of paparazzi she should sort herself out. This is a self help job that she seems utterly incapable of given latest reports that she emerges from fashion store changing rooms stark naked and disoriented before disappearing back into the same changing with male company for 45 minutes of 'strange noises'. I wonder if the shop made her pay for the clothes she brought into that changing room....furthermore, what's the betting that the 'secret' CCTV camera footage of what went on in that changing room becomes the next celeb leaked sex tape!

What's to become of Britney this year? She seems certain to lose significant custody of her sons and her album "Blackout" is not generating the stellar sales some predicted to return her to her pre-eminence in the pop scene. So far, it's earned her a Top 10 single (with "Gimme More") in the US and some of the best reviews she's had in ages... for her music that is. However, the media continues to focus more strongly on her shambolic private life and when she attempts to put the focus on her music she rather excels at cocking things up! Her dreadful performance at the MTV Video is the stuff of YouTube legend. Looking dazed, out of step with her dancers and devoid of enthusiasm, her troublesome state was the talk of the town, not her Top 10 single. It remains to be seen what depths she can plumb in February. She is surely heading for a reality TV show/tell-all at some point. Her legal counsel and management have all thrown in the towel citing irreconcilable differences (polite speak for her being the stuff of nightmares!). Who can help her turn things around?
