Murder in New Cross - Senseless, Savage, Sensationalback to blogs home >by The Watcher More and more details are emerging from the Metropolitan Police of the flat fire in New Cross, South London in which two bodies were discovered by police and firemen. The fire and damage to the building is one thing, the savage murder of two seeming innocents is quite another. On a human level the murders elicit sadness. This sadness is joined at the hip with heightened caution and concern if you happen to be one of the residents of that building...I am one. I was watching Sunday night TV when I heard two or three building-shaking thumps as if something extremely heavy had been dropped or thrown to the floor in a flat either above or below. For a few moments I was willing to ignore the tremor inducing event but then decided it would be wise to see if anything bad was happening. I went downstairs and out of the building and people who I can only assume were fellow residents were rushing about and grabbing at the hair in panic. I came out of the building and looked to the left to see flames and dark smoke billowing out of the middle ground floor flat. Other people were shouting through the broken window and smoke to see if anyone was inside the flat. I called the fire brigade and they were on the scene with the police within 5 minutes. Th fire was put out within a handful of minutes and the police evacuated the residents who hadn't already come out. If I had known I would be flat-less for two days I would have gone back in and grabbed clothes, money and my phone! The true horror of the crime would unfold in the coming days. back to blogs home > To check main articles home CLICK HERE > Back to Recruitment Times homepage CLICK HERE > |
